A transitional energy is wafting through the lives of nearly everyone I know; vast changes seem to be unfolding all around me. A friend of mine described it so beautifully the other evening as we chatted about the palpable energy in the air. The change is here and happening, she explained, but the stale energy is holding on, its grasp unrelenting. I know we’ll feel a release soon, maybe as we shift into the new year, as we settle and work our way through.
I think of my pots in their different stages of creation, a natural reminder that all processes take time. A clay pot can’t be made in a day, a relationship can’t be built in a month, a business can’t be fully grown in a year. Slow and steady will get us there, I know. Each stage of the process is as important as the last and the next, even those that feel never ending and painful as you sit in them for longer than you’d like. Every pot has to go through the fire to become the most beautiful version of itself, to shift into it’s next stage. Us humans are no different.
Slow and steady.
Slow and steady.
Slow and steady sounds so nice.
It’s simple to say it, and so much harder to ground in patience and work through it - slowly, steadily. How do we calmly work through the process, release the stale energy, move toward and accept the big changes coming our way and the unknowns they carry with them? Some days it feels like all we can do is wait, breathe air into our lungs, check on our friends, show up even when we’re exhausted, hug our loved ones just a little longer. We won’t sit in the stale energy forever, we’ll move from this space and transition into a new one, in time.
May our patience be steady as we navigate the transitions of this season.
