a favorite piece from this year’s desert pottery collection

This letter is a couple of days late and I decided I am going to be okay with that. I am going to be kind and gentle with myself.
I spent the last three days driving my car 2500 miles and I am reminding myself that driving for three days straight is not easy.
Driving far away from my home for six weeks didn’t make me a single dollar, it actually cost me money, and I am going to be okay with that too, even when our society indicates that it was a pointless endeavor.
It wasn’t pointless for my heart and my soul.
It gave me six weeks of time with my family that lives on the other side of the country.
It gave me six weeks of creating art in the desert, simply and beautifully for myself.
It gave me six weeks of looking at stars above my head on my nightly walks with my dog when I normally look up at city fog and street lamps.
It gave me six weeks to think about how incredible the saguaro cactus is and ponder the power of the ocean and wonder in awe at the ever-changing mountains and ruminate about how we are tiny little glimpses in a big universe and we have to make it count, whatever that means for us.
Because one day, sooner than I realize, a future relative of mine may be going through the clothes I’m wearing now, cutting them up and sewing the pieces together and making them into a quilt to wrap themselves in on a chilly winter night while they wonder who I was and what thoughts occupied my mind and how I chose to keep my hands busy and who I cared for and how I contributed to my community.

It's fleeting and it sometimes feels slow but oh it’s so fast, grasp the things that matter to your heart and certainly do not concern yourself if you feel a little behind.

You are right where you are supposed to be and everything is happening right on time.

  • I am safely back home in Brooklyn and getting to work on a drop of crowd favorite pottery sometime soon, certainly while it’s still winter and definitely right on time :)

  • I am nearly done with my first quilt. It was such a joy to create something simply for myself (and my pup) and I’m so grateful to have ventured into this tactile form of art and expression.

  • My studio photo this week is sweet coop looking out over his city as we crossed over the Manhattan Bridge into Brooklyn at the end of our three day drive:

The personal peace and creativity toolkit is filled with accessible mindfulness and creative prompts to fold into your life no matter how much time you have, encouraging a little thoughtful calm and creative spirit to your days.

This week I talk freezing cold water (and admit to being a little wimpy), share a stunning card pull for the group from this deck, and encourage a short writing prompt with a poem by kate baer.
