POTTERY IS FOR moments of peace.
How the gentle texture of my pottery anchored my breathing through COVID.
This past week I had COVID.
I’m healing, but it knocked me down much harder than I imagined it would. It’s left me feeling exhausted, like I’m in an endless loop, a blur of days all the same. I find myself reaching for bright spots wherever I can find them - little moments of peace I can trust to calm my breathing and settle my heart within this hazy loop I’m circling.
As I rest on my couch, my eyes keep anchoring on a prickly pear bud vase I pinched in the desert this past winter and now rests on my mantle in Brooklyn. The surface is calming - smooth and glossy with the slightest soft texture. My eyes rest on it the way they do on an inland lake on a calm summer day, the breeze just barely creating the softest waves on the glassy surface. My breathing calms and I am reminded how fortunate I am to keep breathing through a virus that took the breath from so many these past two years. Whenever I find myself gazing on the gentle texture of my bud vase, I treat it as a trigger to focus on my breath and take a moment for a few box breaths. I illustrated a guide for you with simple instructions resting on calming imagery reminiscent of wedged clay, if you’d like to join me:
Today I’m feeling thankful for my breath and my gentle pottery that brings me moments of peace and reminders for mindful breath.
May the pottery in your home bring you peace and calm.
> Through the haze of the week, I was able to give my site a whole new look, structure, and platform! I’d love for you to take a stroll around, let me know what you think!
> With my little business lately, I’ve been having rushes of confidence and hope followed by plummeting feelings of defeat. On a quiet, rainy morning this week I pulled a card reminding me to take it step by step - ‘quickly you shall notice all those tiny steps end up giving you exactly the strength and growth you need.’
> I spent some time making pieces for April’s Grounding Clay Club members this past week - everyone gets a completely unique piece this month, which feels special. I can’t wait to guide the pieces through the firing process and send them out soon. You can join - or gift to a friend - right here (use code POTTERYISFORCLAYCLUB for 15% xo).
Thank you, thank you for being here. xx
