I haven’t been inside my studio in months. My hands feel antsy, clicking away at a computer instead of molding clay into shapes. My mind is blurred with travel logistics from the past seventeen weeks. My homebody is begging to sleep in my own bed for more than ten days in a row. My focus feels fragmented and my healthy habits have slowly drifted, replacing themselves with screens and scrolls and churro ice cream.
And my gratitude list is overflowing - time with babies and a hometown celebration, Mexican sun on my face and a snowy upstate wedding, Austin tacos and Arizona sunsets - I could sprawl my gratitudes long, covering pages and pages.
And now it is time to be still.
Today, it is nearly summer out my window and after I send you this email, I’ll fold the laundry and vacuum the dog hair and make myself a nice dinner to watch alongside a Wes Anderson film. I’m going to fill my weekend with nourishing warmth and a cleansing of my space and walks with my pup and time to sit and do nothing. I’m declaring a renewed ownership over my focus, fresh control over my attention, which will be fawning over a book and relishing in a salty bath and making time to dig my hands back into the clay. This weekend I am going to relish in myself, my apartment, my sunny neighborhood - no internet included.
May we all find space to turn off the internet, to fold gently into ourselves and the stillness.
I just finished up an illustration commission, which reminded me how much I love drawing homes! I can’t share it yet - it’s still a surprise! - but it’s getting printed and framed and will soon be gifted with lots of love. I want to draw a hundred more homes and sweet pet faces, so here I am reminding you that I offer custom illustrations! You can order them here! I get them to you quickly (via a digital file) and I send along a few ideas of how to use them - like where you can print + frame them and how to put them on a coozie! Would make a very thoughtful mother’s day gift, just an idea ;)
I’m selling some cute things in my Noihsaf shop :)
What are you getting up to this weekend? I’m practicing a dopamine fast and have eyes for a new film at the theater + a mindfulness practice that will have me staring at a flower (the most delightful stillness!) Step into my studio for a little mindful moment to start your weekend …
