focus forward
Last week I drove my car across the entire country with my dog and partner. We do this every year and love it very much. Those three days we can’t do much more than look toward where we are headed, which is a beautiful reminder of how we should be doing the same in life. Unnecessary distractions are forced to blur on the side, nothing but open road and sky and hotels that let dogs stay for a small fee.
Always worth it.
I love the disconnection, I love the cheap black coffee to get us moving at 6:30 each morning. I did not love that it was 4 degrees in Oklahoma when we passed through, but it made me grateful for my hardworking car and knowing I was headed to Southern California where I would be walking on the beach with no shoes. I love seeing the signs people post along the road. People that have different beliefs than I do and some that believe similar things as me. A reminder that we are made up of so many moving pieces and emotions and fears and dreams.
I hope quietly to myself that we are all doing our very best with what we are given and where we find ourselves.
Grateful to have made it safely. Grateful for this time away from my routines and day to day life in New York City. Grateful just to be here.
